Material weight reference
Sheet Metal Density and Weight
Look up a supplier-published alloy density, then calculate rectangular sheet weight from length, width, actual thickness, and quantity. The table preserves each supplier’s grade scope; it is not a material-lot certificate.
Content reviewed 2026-11-02. Verify the applicability of each source before using a value in a quote.
Input to record
Exact alloy, density source, measured length/width/thickness in mm, and whole sheet quantity. Replace a reference density when the purchase or material certificate specifies another value.
Output to carry forward
Weight per sheet and total kg, plus a downloadable CSV of the geometric inputs and result. Use stock weight for purchasing; keep nested part yield and scrap allocation separate.
Sheet weight
Use measured rectangular sheet dimensions and an alloy-specific density. The initial 1000 × 2000 × 3 mm, 2700 kg/m³ case is an arithmetic example, not a stock-size recommendation. This estimate excludes holes, coatings, packaging, and dimensional variation.
Changing density clears the example source. Keep the replacement alloy and source with the result.
Per sheet: 16.200 kg
Total: 16.200 kg
Volume per sheet: 0.00600000 m³
Weight formula
Weight (kg) = length (mm) × width (mm) × thickness (mm) × density (kg/m³) ÷ 1,000,000,000. The divisor converts cubic mm into cubic meters.
Worked example: a 1000 × 2000 × 3 mm 6061 sheet using the cited 2700 kg/m³ density has volume 0.006 m³ and nominal weight 16.2 kg. Two identical sheets total 32.4 kg. These dimensions are illustrative inputs, not a supplier stock listing.
To estimate cost from a price per kg, multiply the chargeable stock weight by the delivered material price. Do not divide by utilization again if the weight already covers the purchased sheet; apply the shop’s remnant and scrap-credit policy separately.

Reference workflow
- Match the job, material, machine head, and quality requirement to a row.
- Confirm the source, review date, and confidence before copying the value into a quote worksheet.
- Use a measured result or current OEM record when the row is marked as required or unverified.
